Why Waldtiefe
A name, a man who refuses to pick a lane, and a dial that keeps time the way trees do.
Every brand starts with a name, and ours started with a feeling: the moment on a trail when the road noise finally drops away and the woods close in around you. German has a word for that place. Waldtiefe: the depth of the forest.
Two worlds, one watch
Most watch brands choose a side. Some build for the boardroom, with thin cases and polished dials that flinch at a drop of rain. Others build for the backcountry and end up looking like gear. We kept meeting men who live in both places, sometimes on the same day. They wanted one watch that did not look out of place at either end.
What that means in the watch
It means 200 meters of water resistance you will rarely use but never have to think about. It means a case sized to sit under a cuff and survive a fence line. It means straps that change in seconds, so the watch can move from saddle leather to rubber without a tool or a trip to a jeweler.
The tree rings
The dial carries a fine concentric texture borrowed from the cross-section of a tree. Rings are the forest’s own record of time, one per year, wide in good seasons and narrow in hard ones. It felt like the right thing to put behind the hands.
What comes next
The first watch is the Reiter 200, named for the rider. It is in design now. We will share sketches, prototypes and the decisions we are still making here in the Journal. If you want to follow along, join the waitlist.
